Not bad, but not good either. The service and atmosphere was good so I cant complain too much. For me and our party, the food just left some taste to be desired...also no Margaritas to aide in the experience.

Maybe we just went on a really BAD night, or maybe the bar has just been set too high for us now by Coyote Rojo. Either way I remember this place being a lot better about 10 years ago when we first went. Service was decent, but the food was just not very good. My wife's steak, in her fajita, tasted nasty. Not the usual good tasting steak you find in a Mexican restaurant. My oldest son and I had beef Chimichangas. They were ok enough, but nothing special. We will more than likely never be back here unless we here of new management or something.

This is by far the best Mexican food I have ever had! Starting with the fresh, handmade chips and fresh handmade salsas....you could stop right there and be in heaven! But make sure to order the Mean Verde (avocado) taco! It had huge !!! thick slices of Hass avocado....not the normal green mush most places call avocado. And the beans and rice on the side were obviously handmade. You cannot go wrong here!

I had lunch here on Sunday with my family after playing golf at Lake Jovita this place is by far the best Tex-Mex place in Pasco County.

Great food every time. The chili Relleno is awesome. Nice people run the place too. Small but worth the wait.

Hadn't been here since my last review and gave it a try this week. My husband and I ordered two shredded beef chimichangas.,It came w rice and beans as sides for 6.95 each. Size was pretty good. The chimichangas were very tasty. We took it to go bc we were sitting in the outside picnic tables since we had our dog w us. There were umbrellas to protect us from the sun. They brought our food outside and everything was super easy. We will definitely be back. Afterwards, one can go to the park down the street and enjoy sometime outside when it's not too hot.

Super delicious authentic Mexican food. Warning...when they serve you the chips and salsa. When they say this is the mild and this is the hot....HOT is an understatement. Warn your customers that the hot salsa is EXTREMELY HOT! My husband actually began choking a little on the heat of the salsa. I merely had a dab on my tongue and wowza! My husband got the carne asada & I got the carnitas. Huge portions and delicious. The iced tea glasses are massive. One suggestion I have for the owner....please consider to warn patrons that there is a slight step down when you arrive in the entry area. I stumbled upon entering. Perhaps paint it yellow or put up a sign. Someone is going to fall & get seriously hurt. Other than that...great food. We will be back.

Great food. Great service. Be prepared to wait a little, there was a 20 min wait in February. However totally worth it. If you're in the area it's a must try.

Had lunch today , early, around 1115am. The place is small, maybe 15 tables. Very old but in decent shape. Bathrooms small as a port a toilet , but clean. I had chicken fajitas . Chicken was cooked in a heavy spice that turned the meat black. Tasted odd and rather salty. Very small portion of fixins to dress the fajitas. The chips were good , the salsa was marginal. Waitress was decent , not overly friendly.

Well its not exactly in time square(neighborhood) here but it is packed today and aparently every day. This is a small town and definitely a jewel hidden away. I got a shrimp quasadilla and my first impression after my first bite was to ask if the tortillas were pressed here. That is a very good frist impression and the grilled shrimp were tender and cooked perfectly. I would definitely recommend. Be prepared to wait.

I drove to San Antonio to eat here because of the other yelp reviews. I would not make the drive again but would possibly stop here if close to the restaurant. It's your normal tex mex place: burritos, tacos, tostadas. When we got there, we were seated by a hostess only asking others if this was a seat yourself joint or did we need to wait. We were seated and give chips with two salsas: one "hot" and the other mild. I ordered tacos with elote (seasoned corn on the cob) and black beans. I ordered a chicken taco and a shrimp taco. When I received my order I did not get the elote or the beans and instead of a shrimp taco, a fish taco. I didn't feel like telling the waitress about the elote and the beans but did tell her about the taco mistake. She boxed the mistaken one for me and fixed the other. In the meantime, I ate the rice and refried beans waiting for the other taco. The first taco was good but nothing you can't make at home. The 2nd taco I could not eat because I was full. Overall, I get it a "meh"

In the small town of San Antonio, there's a charming Mexican restaurant called Pancho's Villa. No, this isn't San Antonio, TX. It's San Antonio, FL. It exists. Pancho's Villa is one of those little places most people probably wouldn't find without the use of their Yelp app or knowing a local person. My discovery of this gem came from the prior. I stopped here for lunch while driving to Dade City. There was a steady flow of people coming in so apparently this place isn't a secret. I can understand why too. I got the Carne Asada special and it was great. I even liked the refried beans, which is what keeps me away from most Mexican food. If you find yourself in San Antonio. Stop by ol' Pancho's Villa. Es muy Bueno!

I have eaten here on and off for the past 9 years. The food is always good...no complaints. My recent visit was no different - good service, large portions, yummy authentic mexican food.

  • Edwin D.

Awesome food price and service! The only item I don't like on the menu are the fajitas. Otherwise everything else is great! If you are looking for good Mexican food go somewhere else, but if your looking for GREAT Mexican food come here!!!

  • Dolores C.

Must be that this is the only restaurant in San Antonio ? Three of us went there last night and we do not rate it highly. We waited 25 minutes for a table and the servers forgot to bring more salsa. Actually, the salsa and chips were good. The beef fajitas were not very authentic. It appears that they placed a sweet sauce or added sugar to the beef. Not worth a drive and not one of the best Mexican restaurants. You would be better off heading to Vallarta's.

The best Mexican food I've had since I left Arizona 30 years ago. I had the pan fried shredded beef taco and the enchilada. Both were yummy as was the layered dip and the flan. I'm still dreaming about the flan!

  • Claudia P.

Great food, great prices, great service!! I recommend it 100%!! The place is small and cozy!! It was very clean and the food came out quickly!! If I'm ever in the area again, I'd definitely come back again!!

Ok.... You have to take into account the location and don't be fooled by the exterior ...this place is pretty awesome. I have been so fed up with the cookie cutter Mexican places that I have been to that I almost gave up (even though I love that cuisine). I have been going to the place next door and always noticed a high amount of traffic coming to Pancho's....I had to finally take the plunge. I was not disappointed! The service was quick and courteous. I decided on the tacos. They have a wide variety of tacos to choose from and I tried the shrimp and Caribbean chicken...they were unbelievable. My wife had the flauta, and it was just as good. If you are passing through San Antonio and want some delicious Mexican food...hit this place up!

Ummm.. WHERE THE HELL HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY LIFE? This place is delicious!!!! So homey and the people are so nice. This place is cheap and the food quality and quantity i really good. I'm starting St. Leo on January so I went to see the university when my tummy started growling.. Since I got accepted we were looking for a place to 'celebrate' I was thinking more like PF Changs.. So when I saw this restaurant I wasnt really excited... Well PANCHO slapped the hell out of me with flavour and deliciousness. This place is really good. I had a chicken gordita.. 5$ !!!!!! The plate was HUGE, and I hate beans the refried beans there.. oh em gee! To die for.. I was more than satisfied.. I was like PF CHANGS WHO?! I will deff make this place a fav. to come to all the time after a hard day in school! MUST GO !

We ended up at Pancho's only because the first two restaurants our GPS listed couldn't be found. Thank you GPS, because Pancho's was our food find of the year. The food was first rate (and plentiful), while prices were remarkably low. Even though the place was crowded, service was fast. Definitely a keeper !

Cute little place with prompt and pleasant service. Affordable prices and generous portions. The shredded beef crispy taco was fabulous as were the retried beans. Surprisingly busy on a visit after1:30 in the afternoon. That should tell you something.

Moved to Tampa area from SoCal 2 yrs ago, searched high and low for decent Mexican. This place is the real deal and worth the drive. Pancho's is a small, family-run place that most people would avoid for it's tacky run-down look. It's exactly the kind of place I look for, because it usually means the place is run by Mexican cooks who know their food. This is not Chevy's or On the Border, this is Mexican food! We tried the rest, and quite frankly, most of them suck. Food was decent the first time we went, better than most other places around Tampa, but not as good as we were used to. But recently they've really upped their game. Pan-fried tacos, Vaquero tacos, Chimi, sweet/spicy chicken taco, all are winners. Elote is a nice addition. Black beans could use more seasoning, but the refritos are spot-on. The rice is very good, too. Both salsas are good (mix them!), chips are average. The ground beef, as with most true Mexican restaurants, is not the star. Go with chicken or pork. Avoid the margarita and sangria, these are from bottles and not worth the price. Stick to beer or soft drinks. This is authentic Mexican, as good as you'll find in SoCal or Mexico. Service is excellent, the staff always friendly and very good with kids. We usually go for lunch or dinner during the week and have never had to wait. Weekends are a different story with usually a short wait, 10-15 minutes. Just go try the place, if you like real Mexican food, you won't be disappointed.

  • Josh D.

Really great salsa and chips. The guacamole was thin and didn't seem nearly as fresh as the salsa, nothing to write home about. I had three tacos, beef brisket, Caribbean chicken and shredded pork. The shredded pork was the best of the three but I wasn't overly impressed with any of the tacos. Waitress was friendly and attentive.

  • Nate C.

Dojo taco....mix of tastes was spectacular. I'm sad I didn't get more. There are many other specialty tacos that I can't wait to try.

  • Aaron M.

Hands down best I've had. Service fast and friendly. Pretty much ordered for me. Checked on me a few times. Refilled drinks etc.. Food was the best mexican I've had anywhere. All fresh ingredients. Liked it at lunch so much that I came back for dinner. Servers have to use cash register which I fine odd but they were hustling and always attentive. Ambiance is better than most Mexican places and parking seemed more than decent. Worth the trek to come hang out in a little town for the day. Pick some oranges, strawberries or kumquat nearby.

Such a hole in the wall kind of restaurant that you would be afraid that you would end up seeing a bug in your food, but I never have and I've been going to this establishment off and on for 9 years, and there is a reason I go back. It's good Mexican food.

This Mexican Restaurant is one of my favorites. It is small and some times the lines are long, but it is worth the wait. We bring all of our out of town company here and have never had a complaint. The food is great and the price is reasonable. I recommend this restaurant to any one who enjoys Mexican food.

I love love love this place. Best Mexican food around with great size portions. Eat there once a week and usually the local police keep me company. They know the good places to go. Friendly service with great prices. Give it a try enjoy!

  • Jennifer M.

Drove out of our way to eat lunch here based on Yelp recommends only to find out the restaurant has changed hands. They do not accept the Yelp free offer for check in. The Mexican restaurant is owned, run and cooked by no people of Mexican or Hispanic descent. Mild Salsa taste like tomato sauce and hot salsa was really hot. Meals were good with large portions. Server was friendly and allowed our son to bring in a togo meal from next door. He wasn't in the mood for Mexican food. Would really like to try it (Local public house and provisions) next time.

A must go when in the San Antonio area. The place is packed and well worth the wait. I had the Austinite (carne Asada) and Texas Flood (smoked beef brisket) tacos. Delicious!

Great chips and salsa! Very large portions for a reasonable price. Decent tacos and delicious sweet tea. Generally the wait isn't very long. I would definitely recommend it.

I have been eating at Panchos for many years this is a restaurant that will be around for many more years. You won't be disappointed from the flouta to the tacos everything is great. Not a fancy restaurant but well worth the drive from Tampa.

Best enchiladas I've had in...maybe forever. I got the shredded beef enchiladas with verde sauce , fluffy rice and beans smothered in cheese. Next time we get in this neck of the woods I'll be sure to stop here again.

  • Donna A.

Outstanding! The tortilla chips were fresh and warm and very thin, loved them. They were served w hot & mild salsa so we mixed them together I had the lunch special, Chimichanga, and it was delicious w shredded beef. Hubby had 3 tacos- chicken, pork and shredded beef. We agree the shredded beef was the best

  • Mary Lou H.

Best Mexican we have found in Tampa area. We are originally from San Diego, CA and have sorely missed good Mexican food. My husband and I have been here many times and have not found anything we disliked. The mild salsa tastes like spaghetti sauce but if you mix the hot salsa into it you get acceptable salsa. The Spanish rice is marginal but the refried beans are very good. Any dish with shredded beef is good. I thought the tamales were dry. Compared to Mexican restaurants in Pasco county and surrounding areas, this is as good as you can find and as close to being made right.

    (5)
  • Blake T.

I have been to this establishment numerous times, and compared to your quintessential Mexican food here in Tampa, this place is pretty decent. The salsas taste a little weird, but the entrees are great in terms of variety, flavor, and portion size. This place is almost as good as some stellar joints that I have been to out west. Definitely a place to visit if you are tired of the same old monotony down the road in Tampa.

Dear Pancho: WHEN YOUR SALSA TASTES LIKE SPAGHETTI SAUCE FROM A JAR, YOU ARE INSULTING THE INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. This visit did not start out very well. We got there about 2 p.m., and there was a 30-minute wait. On a Saturday. In San Antonio, FL, in the middle of nowhere. But I had heard great things about this place, and had been dying to try it. So we waited it out. When we were finally seated, they put a bowl of chips and 2 bowls of salsa in front of us. It would have been nice if we had been told what the difference between the two salsas was. But here I am to tell you the difference: One is made with jar spaghetti sauce, and is mild. The other one might contain a bit of jar spaghetti sauce, and is hot/spicy. The chips were average. As you can see, the salsa here is crap. DO NOT GO HERE EXPECTING GOOD CHIPS AND SALSA. WHEN YOUR SALSA TASTES LIKE SPAGHETTI SAUCE FROM A JAR, YOU ARE INSULTING THE INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS. The chips and salsas are crap. Maybe the pico is good, or other salsas they SELL are good. But the "free" salsas that you get on the table are crap. After being served that junk, I immediately lowered my expectations and was prepared for the worst. I was STUNNED when the food we got was quite good. This was quite possibly the best Tex-Mex food I have had in Florida. It's not the best Tex-Mex I've ever had, or the most authentic. But it's damn good for Florida. I would recommend the skirt steak tacos or fajitas. The refried beans are done well. The black beans are below average. The chile relleno was below average. Beware that the food here in general is very greasy; my plate had an inch layer of red grease from the enchilada sauce, etc. But overall I have to give this place 4 stars because this is Florida: Mexican food wasteland of the South. If you miss Tex-Mex done (mostly) right, this place is worth the drive. In Texas this place might get 2 stars. WHEN YOUR SALSA TASTES LIKE SPAGHETTI SAUCE FROM A JAR, YOU ARE INSULTING THE INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS.

  • G W.

The waitstaff was very courteous. Prices are reasonable. The spicy salsa was not very spicy has to add hot sauce to make more than just a mild lingering spice on my tongue. The portions are decent, & the food is quite flavorful. I've been to many different minivan restaurants accepts the states but this was the first time my Mexican rice had peas and carrots. 3 .5 stars mostly due to the not so spicy spicy salsa.

Excellent! Great place to go if you are looking for authentic Mexican food! I had family in town and they wanted some real Mexican food. They all agreed it was the best they have had in years!!

  • Brian B.

I had the beef brisket tacos and they were awesome. The flauta was huge and had a great flavor. Portions are large and prices are reasonable. Also, if you're a fried ice cream aficionado, theirs is great. It's not just ice cream rolled in corn flakes like so many places. It's ice cream in angel food cake batter that's fried. Great stuff. Awesome food. Thanks!

I'm from San Antonio TEXAS and I grew up eating enchilada plates and Mexican food. I can assure you that Pancho Villa's is the closest thing I have found to my beloved Tex-Mex cuisine. The funny thing is that I have lived here for 10 years and I just found this place. I'm always skeptical of visiting a Mexican restaurant around here because in always get burned. Pretty much everything here was correct. The enchilada plates were on the huge white and brown plates complete with refried beans, Mexican rice, and little salad. The salsa was fresh made and the hot one had a nice spice. Service was great and I got to practice my Espanol. The only thing I would say that didn't quite hit the mark was the flour tortillas- I'm still searching for the fluffy white and brown lard based tortillas sitting in the plastic tortilla warmer, but alas I'm being a bit picky there. Overall, delicious authentic Mexican (or Tex-Mex at least) priced appropriately and reminded me of the taste of home. I'll be back the next time I'm craving a huge plate of gut busting goodness!

Delightful little town, delightful little place to eat yummy Mexican food. One of our favorite types of food and this was some of the best we've had. The chicken fajitas were very good. Service was fast and very good. Can't wait to go back!

We almost didn't go because of other Yelp reviews. I am glad we did. We have eaten here many times, though it has been several months since we go to this side of town. Yes, the menu has changed. It is different, but still good! I had two tacos, the Dojo (beef, carmelized onions, mango, cilantro, queso blanco, and jalapeños) and the Chili Relleno taco (I forget the name they had for it). They were both fantastic! My wife commented that her carnitas (not on the menu, but still available) were better than the last time we were there. Beans and cheese were tasty, as was the excellent salsa and fresh chips. Great service from the waitress we always get and country music mixed with Mexican on the radio. Go. Try it again. I am pretty sure you will be glad you did.

I often take online reviews with a grain of salt, but after trying pancho villas, I can wholeheartedly agree with every 5 star yelp comment for this restaurant. It truly was probably the best Mexican food I've ever had east of the MS river, and definitely the best in FL, which has a paucity of good mexican. there were so many varieties of tacos and they were all really interesting options. everything else i've had is good too. everything other than the tacos is heavy so make sure you're hungry. the fish and shrimp tacos are sizeable, but not heavy.

We were on the Tour de Clay and San Antonio Pottery was our last stop. We were starving and we love Mexican food. This seems to be one of the only places in town and of course we found it on Yelp:) We arrived (thank you pictures) and there were tons of motorcycles outside. We figured if it was popular with the bikers we would love it. There was a 10 minute wait, but once we sat down there was already chips and hot and mild salsa on the table. I checked in at Yelp and got the best darn black beans for FREE! I am telling you everyone gobbled them right up. Probably the best black beans I've ever had. One ordered chicken enchiladas. Another ordered beef tacos and I ordered beef fajitas. Mine was huge! Lots of onions, with rice and beans and the beef had been marinated in something sweet so it was very different, but I loved it. My family loved the chips and salsa, but they weren't too thrilled with their lunches. My mom's only comment was the tacos were soggy and she is very particular. I would definitely go back and have the same things again.

Ended up here for lunch after attending a wine tasting at the nearby Florida Estates Winery. Although it's probably a good forty minute drive to Pancho's Villa from my house, I would definitely make the drive when craving Mexican food, rather than settle for bland and mediocre Mexican food that I have thus far encountered in Tampa! The restaurant is modest with an extensive menu of Mexican goodness. We were a party of three and all of our dishes were packed with flavor and fresh ingredients. Also, the chips and salsa were complimentary, unlike other restaurants in Tampa that nickel and dime you! Although the restaurant was packed, the service was great, as our waitress was very attentive and our food arrived after a reasonable wait. I'll definitely be returning!

A very solid bet for Tex Mex style fare, Pancho's is definitely worth the trip. It is small and family run, which shows prominently in the service. The variety of taco choices, each sold a la carte, allows for a great variety in your lunch or dinner. The prices are quite reasonable for the serving sizes. My only complaint is with their switch away from Pepsi products to Coke, which is a true shame.

Pancho's Villa is the best mexican food I believe I've ever had. Ever. Now that I no longer live in San Antonio, no mexican I've had compares. I'm disappointed and have pretty much stopped eating mexican food because everything else is just lame and nasty compared. Their salsa is incredible, and they make it several times a day. The fajitas are the best fajitas ever, and I've actually reverse engineered them in my kitchen so I make them as well. Their burritos are great, their chimichangas are outstanding, and well... it is just a wonderful place. Be warned, though... Pancho's is a "cozy" place, and due to the quality of food and great prices, the line is always out the door in the evenings on the weekends. A lot of times, I just call in some togo -- it's almost as delicious at home out of a Styrofoam container. If you're actually going to eat there, come early or come late if you don't want to wait, but trust me... it's worth it.

  • Gail C.

Poncho Villa is very unassuming inside and out, but the real value of this dining gem is excellent food in a small town atmosphere. From one of the servers kids who tagged along to every table to the local sherrif dining at the table next to you, community is the right word to describe what you experience here! If not the best Mexican food I've ever had it certainly is one of the best. A must do! Tip...mix the hot with the mild for a perfect salsa.

We live an hour away but make the trip once a month. I know that must sound silly to some people because you live in a large city and an hour commute is normal for anything. Anyway we ate the specialty tacos over a year ago and have never tried anything else when we go back. The menu is fantastic for tex mex lovers. If you will look at the menu for their specialty tacos, you will understand. *Be prepared to wait to be seated *it is a small joint so your large families or parties will not be sitting together *portions are generous *Make sure you check in on yelp, there is a surprise waiting for you

Delicious housemade Mexican food! Much better than Miguels in Tampa where we live. To get to Pancho Villas we take country back roads which makes for a scenic drive to San Antonio. Food is great, service is efficient, but not overly friendly or personable.

  • Jason K.

If you like Mexican food don't come here, the lines are shorter at Taco Bell. This is a Mexican restaurant by name only. If you enjoy ethnic foods prepared by white people, this may be an option.

We've been going here for quite some years now. We don't live close but make the 40 minute drive if we're in the mood and we always make sure we stop by anytime we are passing through town. Service is great. We always leave feeling satisfied and full. The restaurant is very small, but we've lucked out and have never had to wait too long for a table.

When you first drive up to Pancho's, you might not think much of it. A small place with a run down sign, tucked away next to a little market. You owe it to yourself to venture past all that, though. This place is small, and very cozy (and by cozy, I mean cramped, but in a good way). The tables are pretty large, with a good selection of hot sauces. You'll be greeted with fresh tortilla chips and 2 kinds of salsa, which are fantastic. The menu is a bit daunting, but I suggest trying one of the combo dinners, so you can have more than one thing, without ordering multiple portions. The food was all fresh and quick, and probably the best mexican I've had in this state yet. Overall it was a great experience, and the wait staff was more than happy to go on and on suggesting what's good on the menu. The only down side to my visit was that it was a particularly cold night, and I got a table by the door, which kept being opened, resulting in nice blasts of cold air throughout the meal.

Great little place in a quaint little town. If you're in the San Antonio area and craving some fine Mexican grub then this is your place. There is usually a short wait to get a table. But once inside the service is good and the chow even better. Bottled beer only but with an okay selection.
